Obituary for Rola Lee Hogan
Rola Lee Hogan Born November 8, 1933 in Lashburn, Saskatchewan to Rola Irwin Hogan and Dolly (Helen Norah Key) Hogan. Rola was the eldest of 4 children raised in Waseca, Saskatchewan.
In 1938 the family travelled to BC by covered wagon to look at property at Fort Steele. As the property was under water they choose to return to Saskatchewan, wintering at the Atwoods in Jaffray on their way back to Waseca.
Rola moved to B.C. in 1951 and after touring the province trying his hand at different jobs he ended up at Giant Mascot Mine in Spillimacheen where he took electrician apprenticeship. Before finishing his apprenticeship he did a season touring as a carnie.
Working at Spillimacheen Rola got to know Elsie Erickson, they dated and were married July 2, 1955, almost 64 years of a wonderful marriage. They were blessed with 2 children, Jeanette Leigh and Rola Eric. Family was everything to Rola.
Just a few months after completing his electrical apprenticeship the Giant Mascot Mine closed and Rola & Elsie moved to Cowichan Mines for a few months before Rola hired on to BC Power Commission in June 1956 as their diesel electrician. Rola & Elsie travelled the province living in hotels and a company trailer. Jeanette was born in 1958 and travelled with them until they settled in Prince George in 1960 when son Rola Eric was born. In P.G. Rola was spare operator at the diesel plant, then electrician and then crew foreman. He was good and his job and mostly well-liked and respected. During our time in P.G. he also taught electricity upgrading to apprentices at P.G. Vocational School. Rola was conferred with a Loyal Order of The Moose Life Fellowship Degree in recognition of service rendered culminating as Past Governor. Rola had a knack for making people feel worthy and special and was a great listener. He was always there for his family, friends and co-workers.
1974 Rola became Production Supervisor at BC Hydro based in Cranbrook, BC. where Rola & Elsie continue to reside. Embracing life in Cranbrook, Rola was involved in many groups including Board member F.W. Green Home and Executive and President with the Cranbrook Colts organization. We have many memories of Dad at the hockey arena.
After retiring from BC Hydro in 1988, Rola started E & R Images and imprinted hats, ribbons, trophies, magnets, t-shirts, banners and much more.
Rola was predeceased by his parents Rola & Dolly, nephew Irwin Victor Hogan, niece Judy Weins and 3 bother-in-laws Jim Paul, Jim Weston & Ray Tress. Survived by loving wife Elsie, daughter Jeanette Sissons, Son Rola E. (Shelley) Hogan and grandchildren Crystal Scott (Kyle & Tyson), Brad (Brandy) Sissons (Maizie), Andrew (Sam) Hogan (Jack & Max), Jordy (Courtney) Hogan (Riley), Erica (Luke) Lindholm (Quinn), Siblings Helen Tress, Irwin (Evelyn) Hogan & Christine (Ken) Scofield, sister-in-laws Kay Paul & Betty Weston and many wonderful and treasured nieces and nephews.
