Richard Eric Winter, age 79, of Stratford passed away peacefully at the St. Mary’s General Hospital, Kitchener, on June 11, 2019. Born in Barrhead, Alberta, son of the late Reinhold and Emeline (Lother) Winter.
Richard and his wife Jean owned and operated South End Service on Downie Street from 1971 to 2019. He loved fiddle and country and western music, horseshoes, camping, collecting caps and his 1952 Ford Tractor.
Beloved husband of 46 years of Jean (Bonnett). Loving father of Kevin Winter (Anna) and Kim Winter-Macpherson (Richard). Grandfather of Dominic, Corson, Pyper and Kayla-Jean. Brother of Valentina Wettlaufer, Hildegard Chambers (Bill), Hugo Winter. Also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ruby Peterbaugh, Robert Bonnett, Jim Bonnett (Mary), many nieces and nephews and special friend Brian Elliott.
Predeceased by brother Arthur Winter, brothers-in-law Don Peterbaugh, Lloyd Bonnett, nephews Ed, Dale and Rick Winter and Doug Peterbaugh and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Archie and Annie Bonnett.
Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Friday, June 14, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. A reception will be held at the funeral home following the interment at Avondale Cemetery.
