Kathleen Marie “Kay” Flanagan
June 23, 1928 – June 19, 2019
Kathleen Marie (Kay) Flanagan, wife of the late Wilbert Flanagan, passed away on June 19, 2019.
Her family shall miss her dearly.
We are thankful for the wonderful care she received at Shannex Parkland Saint John for the last 3 years, formerly of Newcastle and that she has arrived swiftly in heaven to be greeted by so many loved ones.
Kay was born on June 23, 1928 in Saint Margaret’s to the late Joseph and Kathleen (Fraser) Daley.
She attended Saint Michael’s Academy in Chatham as well Teacher’s College in Fredericton with her life-time friend Rose Ramsay.
She taught in South Bathurst, Bass River, Dalhousie, Moncton and finally Chatham for over 25 years while earning Degrees in Arts and Education from the University of Moncton.
Kay was predeceased by her parents, her husband of forty-four years, Wilbert, her brother Billy and her sisters Geraldine Flynn and Marie Carroll.
She is survived by her sister Stella McIntyre of Saint John, sister in law Symone Daley, and children Kathy (Ron) Baldwin of Bathurst, George (Jane) Flanagan of Quispamsis, Larry (Jill) Flanagan of Miramichi, Colleen (John) Orlando of Ontario and Marlene (Peter) Fitzgerald and Carole (Ian) MacArthur of Halifax.
Additionally by her beloved grandchildren Amy (Dave) Murdoch, Krista (Brian) Cullen, Dr. Laura Flanagan (Matt Gariepy), Rob (Angela) Flanagan, Kate Flanagan (Adam Burns), Brian Orlando, Stephen Flanagan, Kathleen Orlando, Michael MacArthur and Mark MacArthur and great grandchildren Payton, Ben, Logan, Melissa, Owen, Lillian, William, Alexa, Liam and Poppy.
A devout Roman Catholic and longtime member of the CWL at Saint Mary’s Parish in Newcastle, Kay passed on both her faith and humanity.
She loved to engage in both small and larger acts of charity and kindness.
Kay is resting at Bell’s Funeral Home on the Miramichi with visitation 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Friday, June 28, 2019.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Miramichi at 10 AM with Father Antonio Reyes officiating.
A Reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church would be appreciated.
