Jeanne d’Arc Châteauvert (née Bouillon) passed away Wednesday, June 5th at the remarkable age of 91 years at the Reactivation Care Centre in Toronto. She was the beloved mom of three children; Michel, Joanne and Robert and had the pleasure to know and love three grandchildren; Chloe, Andrew and Timmy.
Born in1927 in Rimouski, Quebec, Jeanne d’Arc was the last surviving member of her immediate family; sister Anita and brothers Lionel, Alvarez, Ovila, Leonard, Roger and JeanGuy Bouillon. She met and married André Châteauvert and moved to Toronto, Ontario and eventually settled in Richmond Hill in the same family home she has resided in for over 50 years.
In her early adulthood, Jeanne worked for the Royal Bank. After marrying André Châteauvert, she gave up her career to become a full time homemaker and mom. When her children were in school full time, Jeanne turned to works of charity, volunteering her time to the March of Dimes, Heart & Stroke Foundation and Easter Seals. She devoted many years to the “Save the Children” fund and became their Regional Director of the Pennies Campaign. Jeanne also gave her time to Senior Homes where she ran the gift and snack cart.
Jeanne’s talents included baking, sewing and knitting. Her holiday baking extravaganza’s were traditions that her children enjoyed even when Jeanne was in her 80’s! Jeanne was known for the elaborate, beautifully crafted knit sweaters she created until severe arthritis prevented her from continuing with her passion. She loved to read harlequin romance novels and enjoyed making puzzle’s, many of which were so intricate and picturesque she had them framed and gifted as art. Jeanne was also an avid sport’s fan, cheering and yelling at her beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, and Toronto Blue Jays.
In her elderly years, Jeanne suffered from diabetes and kidney disease. Jeanne is also a breast cancer survivor. Whatever her challenges, Jeanne met them head on. When learning of her medical conditions, Jeanne became the model compliant patient, changing and adapting her lifestyle to ensure longevity of her life. Her strength of character, fighting spirit and indominable will was never more evident than in her final two months.
The Marshall Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Diabetes Association or the Kidney Foundation.
