Obituary of Frances Marie «Fran» Hamilton (nee Smith)
HAMILTON, Frances Marie “Fran” (née Smith)- Of St. Thomas, ON, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Monday, June 10, 2019, at the age of 97. Born in St. Thomas, ON, February 4, 1922, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Ellen (née Gornell) Smith. Frances was predeceased by her husband, James William Hamilton, and her sisters, “the Smith Girls”; Betty Sangster, Sister Mary Agnes, Isabelle Smith, Alice Beavis, and Helen Robertson. Her life was dedicated to the well-being of her husband and three children; Brian Hamilton (Elaine), Jim Hamilton (Lois), and Mary Ellen Molasky (Harold). Frances was the proud grandmother of Betsy, Gregory, Meg, Kenzie, Jason, and Robbie. She was the cherished great grandmother of Veronica, Isabella, Grayson, Kerris, Mitchell, Jack, Hope, and Kaitie. During her life, Frances was a devoted member of Holy Angels’ Roman Catholic Church, St. Thomas, where she was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation or funeral service. A private family graveside service will be held at Holy Angels’ Cemetery. Memorial donations to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation will be gratefully appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the SIFTON FUNERAL HOME, 118 Wellington St. , St. Thomas (519-631-1160). Frances’ family would like to thank the nursing staff of the fourth floor at the STEGH for their compassionate care. Many thanks, as well, to Shirley and all the ladies at 420 Wellington Street for their support and friendship.
