It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Shirley Dowling, in her 88th year, at the Hamilton General on Friday May 24th with her four children and two sisters at her side. Shirley passed peacefully from this world to join so many loved ones who have gone before her. Her beloved husband Bernard was at the gates of heaven to greet her. Remaining behind to cherish her memory and celebrate her life are her children Wade (Karen) Donna (Carl) Terry (Laura) Lori Anne (Stephen). Her grandchildren Brent, Jeremy, Ashley & Robb Castelo, Lucas Walker (Carly), Eric (Heather), Jenna (Patrick). Great grandchildren Nathan & Brynnley Castelo who lit up her life. Her siblings predeceased sister Marie, brothers Kendall, Leon, Glenn. Surviving brothers and sisters Herman (Georgina) Arlene (Allison) Jeanette (Hector) Eldon (Suzanne) Velda (Ronnie). Mom leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and friends especially Lorene (Pudge) Don & Joan and her card playing buddies who all held a special place in her heart. Shirley will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Mom made her family the center of her universe. Please join us in celebrating her wonderful life. Visitation will take place at Miller Funeral Chapel at 28 Caithness Street E. in Caledonia from 5 to 8 pm on Tuesday May 28th. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Parish on Wednesday May 29th at 11 am at 107 Orkney St E Caledonia. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation or charity of your choice. Words cannot express our gratitude for the expert compassionate care our mother received at the Hamilton General Emergency and ICU East. Our mom put up a good fight. Thank you to her home care team who took excellent care of her. Special thanks and love to our Aunt’s Jeanette Oickle and Velda Forrest who flew in from Nova Scotia to be by their sister’s side and support us through this heart-breaking time.
