VIOLIN, Reno Basil
January 14, 1934 – May 7, 2019
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Reno after a brief illness. Loving husband to Enrica (nee Pataracchia) for 62 years and cherished father to Paula (David Oakie), Victor (Elizabeth Knox), Nello (Margaret Molnar), Rena (Michael Marzilli), Roberta (Stephen Sager), and Emilio (Sheri Verboom). Cherished Bisnonno of Nicolai Skube. In every way, Reno modelled the importance of maintaining a close family and living with faith and integrity.

Born: January 14, 1934 Death: May 7, 2019

With Enrica by his side, being with family and friends was a cornerstone in Reno’s life. Together they welcomed family, lifelong friends, colleagues, and neighbours into their loving home and beautifully tended backyard. Their kitchen table, front porch, and patios were always open to visitors. These moments of «shooting the breeze,» wisdom, and hilarity will be sorely missed by anyone blessed with these experiences. Around any piano, table, or campfire, Reno would spark bouts of singing, laughter, comical antics, and political discourse. Time spent with Reno was always a memorable event.
Reno was a proud graduate of Cathedral Boys High School, McMaster University, and Osgoode Hall Law School. After his call to the bar in 1959, he practised general law in Hamilton for over 25 years. Reno was the Sheriff, Judicial District of Hamilton-Wentworth, from his appointment in 1986 until his retirement in 1997. He was a past member and leader of the Venetian Club and Italo-Canadian Recreation Club. A respected strategist in campaign backrooms, Reno worked with seasoned and aspiring political candidates for

all levels of government. For over 30 years, Reno dedicated his efforts to supporting C.Y.O. Camps Brebeuf and Marydale through its annual Celebrity Dinner, which he co-founded in 1986.
He was a devout parishioner at All Souls Church in his youth and later at St. Joseph Church.
