Prudence Emily Aileen Lathey
January 13, 1923-May 11, 2019
It is with much sadness that the family of Mrs. Prudence Lathey nee Kingsbury announce her passing on May 11, 2019.
Prue was born on January 13, 1923 in Ynyshir Rhondda Valley, South Wales, UK. She was the first child of Arthur and Muriel Kingsbury and had two younger brothers: Jimmy (deceased) and Gary.
During World War 2, Prue served in the Glamorganshire Constabulary as a police constable which is where she met her husband John ‘Jim’ Lathey (deceased). Prue and Jim had three children: Phillip (Pat) of Bridgend, UK, Helen of Summerland, and John (Karen), also of Summerland; four grandchildren: Rhodri (Nicki) of Cheltenham, UK, Victoria (Justin) of Kelowna, Louise (Julie) of Vancouver, and Jonathan (Kaisha) of Kelowna; and three great grandchildren: Jessica of Cheltenham, UK and Owen and Julian of Kelowna.
Prue volunteered all her life. When she lived in the UK she was a member of the WRVS, the Blind Association, and she worked relentlessly for the well being of the Police Widows Association. When in Summerland, she was more than happy to ride shotgun with her daughter Helen in delivering meals on wheels. She was also signed up to take part in the MS Walk in May to support her granddaughter Victoria who has MS.
Family meant everything to Prue and although a frequent visitor to Canada to visit her family, she came to live here permanently at the age of 80, first in West Vancouver and then moving to Summerland in 2005. She became a Canadian citizen at the age of 90.
Prue loved the Okanagan as it reminded her of the Rhondda Valley where she grew up, only with more sunshine.
Prue will be dreadfully missed by her family. She was 96 years old.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 27, 2019 at St. Stephen Anglican Church, 9311 Prairie Valley Rd., Summerland, BC.
