Karen Selkirk Eadie, age 77, passed away at home on May 14th after a hardfought battle with cancer. Karen was born to Hazel and Frank Shubert in Brampton, Ontario. Karen spent her youth with a love of music having a real talent for playing the piano. It was this love of music that was her true passion in life. The family moved to Medicine Hat when Karen and her sister Helene were growing up. There her Dad drove Karen to Calgary for regular music lessons to obtain an ARCT degree. Later the family moved back East to Port Credit, Ontario. Karen obtained a Home Ec. Degree from the University of Guelph promptly putting it to good use operating as Food Services Officer for Canadian Forces, Namao reaching the rank of Captain. While stationed in Vancouver, Karen met her handsome Scotsman, William (Bill) Eadie, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in 2016. Over the years – Karen transferred her passion for the piano to a generation of Glenora neighbourhood kids by teaching them to “tickle the ivories”. Karen was also a voracious reader, lifelong learner and a member of the Glenora Ladies Bookclub. Karen was a talented seamstress and an enthusiastic member of a quilting group in Sherwood Park. Karen had a soft spot in her heart for cats, ideally sitting on her lap. Her family dinners were the stuff of legend as a master chef and baker. In her later years, Karen was able to lead a retirement full of adventure, travel and more music with the Westend Seniors choir. Karen had a genuine warmth about her and was kind to everyone. Karen is survived by loving husband Bill Eadie, Children – Alex (Tracy) & Richard, Grandchildren – AveryAnna, Dylan and Katelyn, Sister – Helene Grace (Ray) and Sister-in-Law – Joan Sievwright (Maurice). Please join us in celebrating Karen’s life on Thursday afternoon, May 30th at 1:30pm. at Mount Zion Lutheran Church, 11533 – 135th. Street, Edmonton (North of Westmount Mall). Karen loved colour and would frown on wearing black! In lieu of flowers, donations to cancer research are welcome.
