1918 ~ Irene Eaton ~ 2019
Irene Eaton of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 4th, 2019, at the age of 100 years. She leaves behind to cherish her memory nephews, nieces, and friends. Irene was predeceased by her loving husband, Walter “Mike” Eaton; her parents, Herman and Louise Schneider; and her brothers, William Arthur “Bill” (Edna) Schneider, Kenneth (Mary) Schneider, Milbert (Noami) Schneider, and Hector (Vi) Schneider. Born at Surprise, SK, on August 2nd, 1918, Irene was the eldest daughter of Herman and Louise Schneider. After taking a hairdressing course in Calgary, AB, she moved to Medicine Hat, AB, in 1942. In 1944, she met Mike while he was serving in the Air Force and stationed in Ft. Nelson, BC. On November 2nd, 1946, they were married in Schuler, AB. They made their home in Medicine Hat and Irene continued her hairdressing career until 1953. Irene kept busy with her many hobbies and sports; Irene loved bowling and watching hockey and baseball. She volunteered many hours with the Cancer Clinic and was active in her church. Irene served as the treasurer of the Ladies Aid for 25 years and served as President in 1986. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so on Tuesday, May 7th, 2019 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB, T1A 1Z5 or on Wednesday, May 8th, 2019 from 12:00 to 12:55 p.m. at ST. PAUL’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 515 Sprague Way SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1B 4A7. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 8th, 2019, at ST. PAUL’S LUTHERAN CHURCH at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ken Edel officiating. Memorial gifts in Irene’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, AB T2E 2P5 or St. Paul Lutheran’s Building fund or charity of one’s choice.
