La célébration de
Holman Patricia K.
4 janvier 1934 –
12 mai 2019
Barb and Cheri Holman are saddened to announce that our mother, TRISH HOLMAN, died of malignant myeloma on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at the Dorothy Ley Hospice in Etobicoke Ontario. Trish was born January 4, 1934 to Margret and Gerald Malaher, grew up in rural Manitoba and then moved to Winnipeg where she became a teacher at the University of Manitoba. After having two children, she realized the need for a nursery school, and with two others, owned and ran St. Peter’s Nursery School at Grant Avenue. The family moved to Toronto where Trish became a Junior Kindergarten teacher with the Etobicoke Board of Education. The biggest advantage of being a teacher was that she could spend the summers at West Hawk Lake Manitoba in the cottage she and her husband David Holman built with her parents in 1957. Trish was very involved with: Girl Guides, at age 16 she was one of two guides representing Canada at “Our Chalet” in Switzerland; Couples Club and English conversation at the Church; The Etobicoke Osteoporosis Support group, as president; organizing expat Winnipeggers and later community members in their biweekly volleyball games and get-togethers afterward; Winfal Seniors at West Hawk Lake, as president; The Horticultural Society, arranging flowers for competition; Basic Knits, a pattern company that specialized in sewing with knit fabrics; and continuing the community atmosphere she felt from her neighbours when she moved to Islington in 1969. Trish was very much a documenter of both ongoing and past events. Because of this, we have a wonderful record of her, and our lives. There will be a Celebration of her Life at Islington United Church in Toronto on Friday May 17, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. You are welcome to visit in the church’s “Reception Room” starting at 10:30 a.m. and light refreshments will be served there, following the service. Trish’s ashes will be interred at the family plot at Elwood Cemetery when the family is in Winnipeg this summer. Instead of flowers, please consider a donation to The Dorothy Ley Hospice,The South West Whiteshell Fire Department or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made through turnerporter.ca
