Gerald’s Obituary
Oxley, Gerald – age 72, Wallace, Cumberland County, passed away May 11, 2019, in Truro, with his grandsons and daughter by his side. He was born November 9, 1946 in North Wallace to Murdock and Altha (Jamieson) Oxley. After graduating from PDHS, Gerald sold encyclopedias door to door and hitchhiked his way to Alberta to visit with his oldest brother and family. Eventually he moved to Woodstock, Ontario, where he met and married his wife Dale. While in Woodstock, Gerald worked for 30 years with Fisher Controls. He played many sports; bowling, curling, etc and his favorite, baseball. He was an official umpire with Softball Ontario and Softball Canada. He and Dale enjoyed hosting family gatherings and always had an open door for family from the Maritimes where they could stay, eat and play. In 1997 Gerald and Dale returned home to Wallace, to be closer to their grandsons and daughter. Those boys were their greatest joys. With the passing of Dale, Gerald continued to be a strong family supporter and was always there in time of need. He worked as a truck driver delivering lobsters for Chase’s Lobster Pound and also worked at Elliott’s Lobster Pound, where you were bound to hear the best gossip and stories. He shared many laughs and good times with friends, old and new. His years were filled with contentment. Gerald is survived by daughter, Lisa; grandsons, Matthew (Carrie and Connor) and Lucas (Hannah); sister, Kelly (Carl) Morrison, North Wallace; brothers, Phillip ( Carolyn) Brownsville, Ont.; Gary, Woodstock Ont.; Wayne, Tabor, Alberta; sister-in-law, Jane (Firth) Oxley, Stirling, Alberta; in-laws, Percy and Margaret DesRoches, Miscouche, PEI, and many extended family members. We love you, always have, always will. Besides his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his wife, Dale and an infant daughter Lena; sisters; Helen, Shirley, and Lorraine; brothers, Eric, Arnold, and Aubrey; nephew Ronnie; sisters-in-law, Irene, Gertha, and Muriel; brothers-in-laws, Douglas and Jack. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to St. Andrews United Church, Sunday School Program, Fox Harbour
