Francis «Frank» Joseph Burns
1937-2019
It is with sadness we announce the
passing of Frank Joseph Burns, age 81, of
Sackville, NB, on Wednesday, May 8, 2019.
Born in New Waterford, Cape Breton, NS,
he was the son of the late Francis and Margaret (MacKenzie)
Burns.
Frank and his wife Edna moved to
Dorchester in 1962 where they brought up their family and lived most
of their lives. He was employed with Corrections Canada
until his retirement. Frank was a devoted member of St.
Vincent’s Roman Catholic Church, Sackville.
An excellent athlete in his younger
years, he received numerous awards. Frank, often known as
Smoothie, was inducted into the New Waterford Sports Hall of Fame in
July 2018.
Frank was an avid supporter of Tantramar
Titan sports for the last 40 years and enjoyed watching his children
and grandchildren participate.
He will be dearly missed by his
children, Linda LeBlanc, Gail (Charlie) LeBlanc, David (Katherine) and
Frankie (Lesley) all of Sackville; 11 grandchildren, Craig
(Karen), Christopher (Shane), Joshua, Jeff, Myles (Hannah), Joseph,
Riley (Sidney), Travis (Lukie), Kelsey, Abbi and Emma; great-grandson
Cameron; sister Patricia Jennex of New Waterford, NS; numerous nieces
and nephews.
Frank was predeceased by his wife Edna
in October 2017; infant daughter Janet; infant granddaughter Hanna;
brothers Sandy, Martin, Bill, Jimmy; sisters Annie, Mary Catherine and
Theresa.
Arrangements have been entrusted to
Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St.,
Sackville, NB, where visiting hours will be held on Monday from 2 to 4
and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated from St.
Vincent’s Roman Catholic Church, Sackville, Father Allison Carroll
officiating, on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 11 am. Committal
will take place in the St. Edward’s Parish Cemetery,
Dorchester.
