HOPKINS, Enid Wilma – 93, passed away at Surf Lodge Nursing Home on Sunday, May 19, 2019. Born in Baccaro, Shelburne County, May 8, 1926. She was the only daughter of Agnes and J. Gilbert Purdy. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Samuel; and brother, Julius Purdy. Mom was strong-willed, stubborn and determined to do things ‘her way and on her terms’ and that is pretty much how her life unfolded. Life was difficult and, at times, challenging but Mom was a survivor. Mom was an avid seamstress, quilter, and knitter. After her family was grown, Mom was employed for a short while at G.M. Newell Fisheries Ltd. In her earlier years, Mom was active in community activities; including, Ladies Auxiliary of the local volunteer Fire Department, local branch of the Canadian Red Cross, as well as Home & School, and local church groups (WMS). Surviving are eight children, Osborne Hopkins (Iris Gail), Dale Hopkins, Lucille Kenney (Robert), Phyllis Krafve (Paul), Martin Hopkins (Judy), Suzanne Crowell (Rodney), Caroline Hallett (Richard) and Wilma Hopkins (friend David); eight grandchildren, Bonnie Krafve-LeBlanc (Darrell), Paula Krafve-Munroe (Darren), Rodney Crowell Jr. Mark Crowell, Jeremy Hopkins (Carli), Jenny Hopkins-Porter (Cody), Dr. Geniece Hallett-Tapley (David) and Corey Hallett (Viktoria); five great-grandchildren, Drew and Noah Hopkins, Benjamin Porter, Kaelyn Tapley, Paul Hallett and step-great-granddaughter, Jazmyne Munroe. Mom is also survived by her sister-in-law, Myrtle Purdy and her family; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Thanks to all the medical and nursing staff involved in our moms care over the past several years. Special thanks to the staff at Surf Lodge Nursing Home, who took such excellent care of mom over the past year. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 from 7- 9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 4:00 pm from the H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington. Interment in Woodside Cemetery. Donations in moms memory can be made to Surf Lodge Nursing Home-Lockport, NS, Barrington Area Lions Club, Yarmouth Hospital foundation or Charity of your choice.
