Dr. Eugene John Murray Cholod passed away peacefully at home May 14, 2019 surrounded by family.
Gene was born February 10th, 1938 in Ituna, Saskatchewan to Steven and Anne (Rebryna) Cholod. He will be lovingly missed by Gerda, his wife of 56 years, 4 children; Murray (Sue), Darren (Darlene), Lisa (James) and Kirsten (Ian) and 6 grandchildren; Erik, Julia, Riley, Matthew, Ayden and Liam, and his sister Doreen.
Gene graduated from the University of Alberta School of Medicine in 1962, specialized in internal medicine, and practised in London, Ontario.
He was an avid musician, and enjoyed playing many instruments including the piano, guitar, bass and violin, with a genuine passion for the banjo. The outdoors were a special part of his life, whether camping with family or canoeing with Gerda through many of Canada’s beautiful spaces. He also enjoyed a good game of hockey, tennis, curling and golf.
Gene will be best remembered for his love and support of family, clever sense of humour, selfless generosity, and his kind and caring ways.
Heartfelt thanks for the exceptional care provided by Dr. Selay Lam and the LHSC Cancer Program team, everyone at South Huron Hospital, Danica and the many community care service staff who provided warm and compassionate care for Gene at home.
