Wendell Middleton
1926-2019
Lakeville Corner — Wendell Walter Middleton, 92,
went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 7, 2019, while surrounded by
his loving family at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional
Hospital.
Predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Mary (McGibbon)
Middleton; he leaves behind his four daughters, Gloria Murray, Jo-Ann
(Gary) Bridges, Diane (Derrick) Murray and Nancy (Michael) Thomas;
grandchildren, Katie (Ian) Morrell, Kelsey Bridges, David (Melissa)
Murray, Andrew (Chrissy) Murray, Stephen Thomas, Elisabeth (Martin)
Stehouwer, Rebekah (Matthew) Green and Peter Thomas; great
grandchildren, Alexandria Morrell, Evan Morrell, Cassidy Morrell,
Quintin Morrell and Raelynn Murray; siblings, Phyllis Welch, Reg
(Irene) Middleton, Shirley (Ernie) Patterson, Judy Thompson, Gail
(Clayton) Tucker; and many close friends.
The son of the late David and Ruby (London)
Middleton, he was born in Lakeville Corner and was happy to return to
the lake to retire.
Wendell was an incredible carpenter who spent over 40 years
working professionally on several Fredericton landmarks including the
Playhouse, the Centennial Building, the Aiken Center, Fredericton High
School, the Fredericton Art Gallery, and Fredericton Public Library.
After retiring from his supervisory job with Diamond Construction he
spent his remaining years working on his own projects including
homemade bookcases, boats, clocks, swing sets, diving docks and
countless beach chairs, usually requested by his beloved
grandchildren.
Wendell started the great tradition of camping at «the
lake» with his family originally at Thompson Shore where they
spent 33 years, and then later moving to Adequate Lane, which he named
because after all… «it was adequate». He loved boating,
fishing, campfires, reading, puzzles, deer watching, a witty joke and
most of all being surrounded by family.
His family extend the greatest appreciation to all of the
staff at Minto Services for Seniors especially «his ladies»
Janet, Dale, Sarah and Lisa for their continuous care and support. And
to Arnold Amos who was a great friend and was always up for a road
trip.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, April 8, from
5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Oromocto Funeral Home. A funeral service will be
held from the funeral home chapel at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 9,
2019, officiated by Dr. Bill Morrison. To honour his love of books,
donations can be made in Wendell’s memory to the Oromocto Public
Library.
