Petrowich, Ruth Evelyn
(1936 – 2019)
Long time resident of Hines Creek and Fairview, Ruth passed away on April 11, 2019. Ruth was born on August 1, 1936 in Drumheller, the oldest child of 3 and only daughter to Wilfred and Jean Dewsbury. Ruth’s family lived in Gartly, northeast of Drumheller, where her Dad managed and operated a grain elevator for Searle.
In Calgary, Ruth studied secretarial courses at the Henderson Business School which led to a job in the General Hospital.
Ruth came to the Hines Creek area in 1957 to connect with a friend she met in school, and while visiting, she met John. Ruth and John married 2 years later in 1959. They had 2 sons, Michael in 1960 and Mark in 1963.
Ruth loved the farm and the outdoors spending hours in the garden tending to her flowers and vegetables.
One of Ruth’s favourite activities was camping, and she could think of no better place than spending time in the mountains. Many a summer vacation was spent camping in Jasper and Banff national parks with her husband and children.
During the cold winters Ruth and John would enjoy time away travelling to Hawaii and other warm destinations.
Not only was Ruth a busy and active farm wife but she worked as a secretary in the Hines Creek school system in the 70’s followed by the Hines Creek Village office in the 80’s.
Eventually Ruth and John retired from farming moving to Fairview in 2002 and continued to enjoy travelling, gardening and spending time with the family.
Ruth was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who will be deeply missed.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents Wilfred and Jean Dewsbury. Ruth is survived by her husband John of 59 years, sons Michael and Mark, daughter-in-law Jamie and cherished grandchildren Carson and Haley. Ruth is also survived by her younger brothers Ken and Bill Dewsbury as well as many nieces and nephews.
