Nellie’s Obituary
AKIN, Nellie Mae ~ Age 103, of Nictaux, Annapolis Co., her life on earth was concluded on Saturday, April 13, 2019, in Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Nellie was blessed to have over a century to complete her various work activities. She was encouraging, strong and accepted simplicity in her life. Nellie’s journey of life began in the community of West Clifford, Lunenburg Co., and was a daughter of the late Samuel and Annie (Crouse) Oickle. She moved to Nictaux at an early age and resided there until her passing. Nellie applied the lessons of hard work for many decades with enjoyment and few complaints. She devoted her work ethic not only to her family and home but outside around the farm, forest and field. For the majority of her life, Nellie’s hand seldom remained idle as she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, a good game of 45’s and a hearty laugh over some humorous incident. She knit many pairs of mittens, gloves and socks for various family members. In later years, Nellie became an avid bingo fan until the age of 100 and enjoyed the friendship of many players. Watching the “Price is Right” was one of her favourite TV programs. Nellie is survived by three sons, Albert “Al”, Wayne (Gloria) and David (Verna); “great” grandsons, Jonathan (Tanya), Mackenzie (Sally), Mark (Michelle), Steve (Julie) and Kris (Kendra); proud great-grandmother of 10 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, John “Bun” Akin. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Albert; daughter, Mary Elizabeth. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service. A private interment for family will take place in the Nictaux Cemetery at a later date, with Rev. Patty Beals officiating. In memory of Nellie, the family asks that you spend some quality time with your family and/or friends or make a donation to your favourite charity.
