On Saturday, March 2nd, 2019 Staff Sergeant Michael Tivers passed away unexpectedly from a massive heart attack. Michael was born to Emil (Joe) and Veronica Tivers in Montreal, Quebec in 1960. He is predeceased by his parents and sister Barbara Trow. Mike is survived by his loving partner of 31.5 years, Deborah Hidber-Tivers; sons Leeam and Kyran; sister Helen D’Allaire; niece Diane; great-niece Laura and great nephew Matthieu; nephew Marc; brother-in-law George Phillip.
Mike trained as an X-ray Technician in Montreal and worked at three different hospitals prior to joining the RCMP. His first posting was in Smithers, BC where he met Debbie, his future wife. Mike and Debbie moved from Smithers to Abbotsford for a Surrey posting and then returned north for two years service in Terrace. Their final move was to settle in Surrey while Mike worked at RCMP headquarters. Mike will be remembered as a stalwart member of the RCMP, serving Canada for over 32 years. He had a passion for camping, fishing, baseball, football and hockey, being a die-hard HABS (Montreal Canadiens) fan. Mike shared these passions with his family, including countless hours in arenas with his boys as both a coach and a supportive parent. Family was always Mike’s priority and he wanted the very best for Deb and their boys. He also valued time spent with dear friends, whether it was in the outdoors, on holidays, or simply enjoying a good meal served with a nice bottle of red wine. Mike has had a big impact on many people…he is deeply loved and will be forever in our hearts.

A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held on Friday, May 10 at 2:00pm.

All proceeds raised for the Mike Tivers Memorial Fund will be shared annually with the goal of supporting financially challenged youth aspiring to pursue hockey, as well as the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
