Joseph John Schanzenbacher
Schanzenbacher, Joseph John (May 8, 1923 – April 8, 2019)
Passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital following a brief illness, one month short of his 96th birthday. Beloved husband of the late Doreen (nee Gofton). Joe was a dedicated, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He leaves behind his children David (Susan), Mary Ellen (Dietmar Sommerfeld), Tom (Kelly Brown) and Brad (Debbie), grandchildren Michael (Heather Hughes), Julie (Mark Gronsfelt), Krista (Will Hunter), Angela (Adam King), Mark Sommerfeld, Matthew, Kaitie (Jahdiel Larraguibel), Wesley (Catharine Gregory), Terra (Andre Botha) and Danny (Constance), and great grandchildren Chase, Gavin, and Riley Hunter, Henry and Emily King, Ryan Julia Schanzenbacher, and Nolan Schanzenbacher. Predeceased by his sister Margaret Schulz. Fondly remembered by his nephew, nieces, cousins and friends. Joe proudly worked at Schneider Foods for 45 years, ending his sales career as Account Executive, servicing Zehrs Markets. After retiring, he went on to work 9 years with Olsen Realty. He will be remembered fondly for his great smile and willingness to speak about investments with anyone who would listen. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and caregivers at Luther Village Sunshine Centre, as well as the staff at Grand River Cancer Centre.
Joe’s family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Memorial Mass at St. Anthony Daniel R.C. Church, 29 Midland Dr. Kitchener, on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 11 a.m. Interment Woodland Cemetery. Reception to follow in the Parish Life Centre. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Luther Village or Grand River Hospital Foundation – Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
