Ilona Fiser
August 1, 1929 – April 2, 2019
Peacefully on April 2, 2019, Ilona Fiser took her last breath allowing her spirit to be free from suffering. She was 89 years old.
She was the beloved wife of the late +Istvan Fiser, Mother to Magdalena, Mother-in-law to Jozsef, Grandmother to Tamas, Marianne and Romi, Great Grandmother to Desmond and Flora, Sister-in-law to Iren (Berta) Kalapos and Sister to the late +Laszlo Kalapos, Mama and Nena to Istvan, Bernadett, Lidia, Jennifer, Ferenc and Erzsebet, Jolan and her family, Aunt and Great Aunt to Elizabeth and Erik, Taylor, Logan, Gabriella, Amber and Dylan, Robert and his family, and Zoltan and his family.
Ilona was born on August 1st,1929 in Zsabja – Bacska – Yugoslavia, living a tough childhood, after World War II and having survived a concentration camp in Serbia, during which time she was orphaned. Ilona immigrated to Canada in 1970 with her family, lived in Montreal, Quebec and then later moved to Hamilton, Ontario.
She was a hard-working woman, with a fierce dedication to her family. Despite her difficult past, she found refuge in her family and in caring for her grandchildren. She was a strong-willed woman with a sharp wit, but a kind heart. She will be dearly missed.
Prayers and visitation on Friday April 5th, at St. Stephen of Hungary Parish 130 Barton St. East Hamilton from 9am, with mass to celebrate her life to follow at 10am. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Stephen of Hungary Church, or St. Stephen’s Hungarian Scout Association would be appreciated.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the compassion and exemplary care provided by the staff at St. Elizabeth Villa (Retirement Residence) and Idlewyld Manor.
