HALSEY, Kenneth Lee
April 8, 1939 – April 3, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Lee Halsey of Nelson, BC on April 3, 2019. He is survived by his wife Shirley of Nelson, son Brad of Prince George, older brother Gordon (Phyllis) of Victoria and sister Hazel Skene of Nelson and nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Terri-Lee, and his parents Tom and Winifred Halsey of Nelson.
Ken loved the outdoors, picking mushrooms with Shirley in the fall, fishing with friends under “BOB” and on Kootenay Lake and hunting in the East Kootenays and Creston flats. His 30 year career with the BC Forest Service was a perfect match to his interest in the natural environment. On visits to Victoria, he and Gordon and occasionally his father-in-law Ed Brady went salmon, crab and shrimp fishing (not always successfully but always fun). In later years, he and Shirley enjoyed their success (mostly!) in various casinos; Castlegar was always a popular local choice. Trips with their fifth wheel trailer around BC occupied summers before and after retirement. He and Shirley and Brad explored Haida Gwaii and the Oregon Coast in their rugged splendor, and their trips to Maui and the Big Island to escape Kootenay winters expanded his interest in geology and marine life.
Ken will always be remembered for his many stories, and will be greatly missed by all those who had the opportunity to know and love him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the British Columbia Lung Association; a celebration of Ken’s life will be held at a later date.
