Floyd Vernon Sanderson
1926-2019
Floyd Vernon Sanderson passed peacefully into the presence of God at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock on Good Friday, April 19, 2019.
Floyd was born on the family dairy farm near Delmer, Ontario on August 31, 1926 to Ross Sanderson and Minnie Williamson. He grew up immersed in farm life, eventually taking over the family farm and proudly raising his own family there. Floyd lived through significant loss in his life, losing his mother when he was only 11 years old, and also losing two loving wives: Ruth Miners and Vivian Thompson. Over the years, he also experienced sadness in the loss of several other dear family members including Ross Sanderson (father), Hazel Swance (stepmother), Dianne (Bell) Sanderson (daughter-in-law), Joshua Sanderson (infant grandson), Scott Peters (grandson-in-law), David Wiens (step son), as well as three sisters: Doris Ravin, Betty-Jean Sanderson, and Judith-Ann Sanderson.
Floyd built lasting memories with all those who cherished him, including his adoring wife of 11 years, Dorothy Wiens, as well as his four children – Randall Sanderson, Terry (Chantelle) Sanderson, Cheryl (Steven) McQueen, Marianne (Brian) Domm and his two step-children Cathy (Mel) Foht and Sharon (Steve) Wiens. Floyd’s family was his true pride and joy in life. He had a deep love and special place in his heart for his grandchildren – Keith (Deb) Sanderson; Louise Peters; Jendaya, Jadyn, Jovanna Sanderson; Andrew (Michelle) McQueen, Matthew McQueen (Caroline von Waldburg); Brandon (Kristann) Domm, Colin Domm, and his great-grandchildren – Kelsey, Dalton, Brooke and Makenna Sanderson; Kayla and Jared Peters. Floyd also leaves behind a loving brother, Wayne (Betty) Sanderson, two sisters-in-law, Beatrice (Don) Currie and Maybelle Ravin, as well as a plethora of friends and special family members that he has been privileged to walk through life with over his 92 years.
Floyd was a lifetime member at Delmer United Church leading and participating in various capacities including elder, trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, and choir member. Upon the closing of Delmer Church, Floyd became a member of Mount Elgin United Church where he was able to continue with his love of singing as a member of their choir. Floyd’s love of music and singing also led him to become a long time member of the Tillsonburg Seniors Choir. Deeply committed to his community, Floyd served in numerous leadership capacities including the Dereham Township School Board, Tillsonburg Fair Board, Oxford County Milk Board, Local Agricultural Manpower Board, and The Long Point Region Conservation Authority. Floyd was also a recipient of the Brownsville Community Citizen of the Year award.
The last few years of Floyd’s life journey have been enriched and supported by all those who lovingly cared for him at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, Tillsonburg Harvest Crossing, and Woodstock Woodingford Lodge. The family sends our deepest thanks to all who have shared in providing care and support for our father.
Floyd has left a legacy of love, commitment, and faith in God to all who were near and dear to him. A service to celebrate Floyd’s life will be held at Ostrander’s Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, April 24, at 11:00 a.m. with Terry Sanderson officiating. Interment will be at the Delmer Cemetery immediately following the service.
