Eddy Gordon Cameron was born at Rocky Rapids, the 13th child born to Mary (nee Davidson) and Fred Cameron. During infancy he was very ill for many weeks.
Eddy was a mischievous, fun-loving child who laughed a lot. His unique sense of humour meant he saw something funny in situations that others missed. His eyes must have been better than 20/20 because he could find pennies any time he walked around and concentrated on that task.
When Eddy was 5 years old three of his older brothers returned from their service in the armed forces. That gave rise to his obsession with learning about and being able to identify the different guns, ammunition, airplanes and tanks used during the war. He had a fantastic memory for details.
As a kid he spent a lot of time honing his skills with a slingshot as well.
Eddy didn’t take schoolwork very seriously—he had fun with his classmates instead. But he was a good reader and excelled at spelling …and throwing a softball. He loved ‘the funnies’ that arrived each week.
He used his superior eyesight to find dozens of Indian arrowheads on his parents’ farm and the surrounding district. Eddy sold the arrowheads he found to the Alberta Provincial Museum. One arrowhead he found was the first artifact catalogued by the Museum from an early historic time period.
Eddy worked at various labour jobs—for farmers in the area, in the oil patch, Alberta’s forestry department, and a large cattle farming operation in northern Alberta. He also worked for a roofing company and worked harder than most people would work.
Eddy attended Bible School in Edmonton for two and a half winters and continued to read and study the Bible sporadically thereafter.
After Eddy’s accident with his car he lost all self-confidence. Depression & insecurity set in as did alcoholism. He became uncooperative, moody, and unfriendly at times. Eventually he was diagnosed as schizophrenic.
Eddy loved many types of music and was a very good singer. He could name hundreds of country and western songs, the song writer, the singer who made the song popular, and in what year it was written and released.
Eddy was loved and will be missed by his family and friends.
His soul will rest in peace, for there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
