Obituary for Victor Matthias «Vic» Gisi

Victor Matthias Gisi, age 78, died peacefully at Tisdale Hospital on February 17, 2019. He was born on November 16, 1940 to Saskes and Helen Gisi at the Tisdale Union Hospital. Vic grew up on the family farm, north and east of Tisdale. He received his grade school education between Florentine and Evington Schools. He also attended school in Wilcox, under Father Murray, in his grade 10 year. Later, he obtained his Welding Certificate from Palliser Institute in Moose Jaw.
After leaving school, dad worked for his brother Lee, on a farm in Clemenceau, SK. Following that he obtained a job working at the Wizewood Mill at Hudson Bay, and then for Wilf Wisser at the Tisdale Rad Shop.
Vic met Doreen McLeod and they were married in 1963. After living in Hudson Bay, they moved to Tisdale and eventually back to the family farm in 1967. Vic and Doreen raised four boys on their dairy farm. The family spent time in the summer at their cabin at Marean Lake and in the winter, ski-dooing.
Vic enjoyed the simple things in life. He enjoyed baseball, whether it be playing, coaching or watching. He watched a lot of ball and especially loved the Blue Jays. He was a competitive bowler, enjoyed fishing, playing cards with friends, hunting and spending time with family. Vic was a great provider and was always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbors and to the community. He was friendly and seemed to know everybody around the country. His colorful one-liners and “Vic-isms” will be missed.
Vic was predeceased by his parents Saskes and Helen, his brother Harold and his sister-in-law Eve and his sister-in-law June (Lee). Left to cherish his memory are his wife Doreen, their children and grandchildren: Michael (Gerri) and their children, Nastasha and Ty; Grant (Sherrie) and his children, Heather, Scott and Justin; Kim (Michelle) and their children, Cole and Erin; and Shawn; his brother Lee and sister Barbara (David) MacLeod; as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
