It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother on February 5th, 2019 at Castleview Care Centre in Castlegar, BC. Verna was born to Mary and John Speirs of Port Arthur, Ontario.
She is predeceased by her long-time companion Luke Harkema, her first husband Ernest Pichette, her second husband Wayne Rouse and her son Patrick Pichette.
Verna is survived by her children; Dian (Ted) Okkerse of Winlaw, BC, Bonita Pichette of Edson, Alberta, Gerard (Kris) Pichette of Calgary, Alberta and David (Brenda) Pichette of New Westminster, BC, her grandchildren; Nicole (Dwayne) Dixon, Monique (Rob) Szajko, Melissa (Ryan) Skrove, Christina Skrove, Kaylee (Phil) Janz, Renae (Kyle) Lepla, Daniel Pichette, Noelle Pichette, Meryssa, her eight great grandchildren, her sister Arlene and four brothers, Bernard, Gilmore, Richard and Glen of Thunder Bay, Ontario.
The family would like to give special thanks to Ann Smith of Fruitvale, BC, Verna’s dear friend who took great care of her for many years; to all of the staff of Castleview Care Centre, Castlewood Village’s Home and to Dr. Ankenbauer for all the care given to our mother.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Gwen Ziprick of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements. You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence.
