Death Notice
DONALDSON, Shirley Marie (Noyes) – Passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 21, 2019 in her 77th year. Beloved wife and best friend of her husband Dick, for 54 years. Predeceased by her parents, Charles and Alma Noyes, brother Robert Noyes, sister Marlene Prosser (Noyes) and brother-in-law Robert Donaldson. Dearly loved and proud mother of son Scott and daughter Angela (Scott Byloo). Nana will be sadly missed by her cherished grandchildren Meghan and Jacob Byloo whom she loved very much. Shirley is also survived by brothers-in-law, Alan Donaldson (Heather), and Stephen Donaldson and by sisters-in-law Betty Noyes and Suzanne Boles. Shirley will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews and their families who liked to gather in her home on many festive occasions.
Shirley graduated from Clarke Road Secondary School in 1960, attended UWO in 1961 and London Teachers College in 1962. After teaching in Brantford for a year, Shirley returned to London, Married Dick and taught in the London Public School System before raising a family together. After the family grew up, Shirley returned to her teaching career where she retired after many years of service from Lord Nelson Public School in 2002, allowing her to help raise her grandchildren who arrived in 2003 and 2006, respectively.
Shirley was blessed with many good friendships, in particular with her former teaching colleagues, sang in choirs, enjoyed playing bridge, participating in book clubs and meeting for lunches with her many dear friends. Her friendly, giving spirit will be sadly missed.
In her latter years of failing health, Shirley appreciated the excellent care given by our dedicated Health Care professionals, especially Dr. Steer, Dr. Yamashita, Dr. Hamilton and his palliative care team including Dr. Stack. Special thanks also go to the Primary Nurses for Shirley’s care; Stephanie, Rosalyn and Tammy and the PSW’s Lisa and Una who provided comfort and care that Shirley looked forward to. The assistance of the LHIN, Paramed and ProResp was also excellent and greatly appreciated.
Visitation on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond. The funeral service will be conducted at the Church of St. Jude, 1537 Adelaide Street North at Fanshawe Park Rd in London, Ontario, on Tuesday, February 26 at 11 am, with the Rev. Bill Ward officiating. Donations to the charity of your choice are greatly appreciated as Shirley was always concerned about the health and welfare of others.
Shirley’s family would like to sincerely thank the many people who visited her throughout this difficult journey, who included her in as many activities as possible, provided meals, conversation, care and companionship. Shirley’s last days were as fulfilling as possible through everyone’s help and kindness.
