MOLLEMA, Myntje (Mary)
On Friday, February 1, 2019, in her 97th year, God called home Mary Mollema (née Dykstra), loving mother of Sylvia (Art), Pat (Clarence), Hank (Elaine), Cor (Liz) and Don (Maryvonne). Born in Nes, Friesland, The Netherlands in 1922, Mary is predeceased by siblings Lolkje, Martin, Dirk, John, Neeltje, her beloved and devoted husband of 38 years, Daam Mollema, and grandsons Kevin and Joey. Survived by sisters Tea (Sietse) and Duifke, and brothers Clarence (Jenny) and Wil (Golda), 18 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren and counting, Mary will be sorely missed by them all. At the age of 14, on the death of her mother, Mary took over the task of caring for the household and her many siblings. Mary married Daam (Dan) in 1945 and immigrated to Canada in 1951 where they built a good life focused on work, family, and church. Mary was a friend to many, especially her friends at the Eastern Ontario Christian Seniors Co-op. Mary is fondly remembered for her strong work ethic and dignity, the joy she took in all her family, her boterkoek, and the hats she knit for her numerous grand and great-grand-babies. Mary’s long and fruitful life was exemplified by her and Daam’s wedding text “The Lord is my Shepherd ”. Friends may visit at the Garden Chapel of Tubman s, 3440 Richmond Rd. (between Bayshore and Baseline Rd.), Nepean on Thursday, February 7 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Funeral service will be held at Calvin Christian Reformed Church, 1475 Merivale Rd. on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 11 a.m. Interment in the spring at Ramsayville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, can be made to World Renew at worldrenew.net or the charity of your choice.
