Peacefully, with her family by her side, during the evening hours of Thursday, February 14, 2019, in her 92nd year. Daughter of the late Anna and Peter Salnicky. Beloved wife for 65 years of Joseph William McKenna. Dear mother of Cathie (John), Peter (Maria), Danny (Jackie), Michael (David), Terri (Paul), Patrick (Nadine), and Sarah (Steve). Loved sister of Anne Limnidis (late John). Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Brandon (Natalie), Melissa, Marieke, AJ, Anna (Dorian), Tess, Katie, Julia, Joseph, Lydia, Eoin, Kieran, Amelia, Jade, and Sage, and her seven great-grandchildren. As Baba and Stara Baba, she will forever be a shining example of love to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Our mother was born in the small village of Benkovce, Czechoslovakia, now Slovakia, in 1927. Her father came to work in Canada in 1926 but it wasn’t until 1934 that Mary and her mother arrived in Canada, travelled to Toronto to join their father and make their new home in New Toronto. Mary and Joseph were married in 1954 and ever since that day have shared the deepest of love together. Mary was always a strong and exciting woman, who was deeply proud and passionate about her Slovak and Irish family traditions – especially large family gatherings, traditional foods, and summers at the cottage on Lake Muskoka. She shared her life with an unwavering love for her deeply loved husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family. Our mother was truly a gift from God, and her shining example of faith will last with us forever.
