Our beloved Jonathan has gone home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 24, 2019. Born in Saint John on April 18, 1953 to John and Beryl (Toner) Rutherford. He is survived by his loving wife Mary (Pilkington) Rutherford, his three arrows Jessica (Joe) Cormier, Robin Rutherford and Jacob Rutherford; his cherished grandson Ronan Cormier; also his siblings Melvina McAllister, Sandy (Ian) Morris, Tom (Linda) Rutherford and many dear nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; many cousins and friends. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister Wendy Rutherford and brother-in-law Everett McAllister.
Jonathan graduated from Simonds High School in 1971 and attended Emmaus Bible School in Chicago where he met the love of his life, Mary. Jonathan was a welder by trade and employed those skills in many places, including Saint John Shipbuilding, Saint John Springworks and since 2003 with Local 213 Plumbers and Pipefitters. One of his highlights of his career was getting his red seal journeyman papers. He also enjoyed many hobbies, including painting cars, carving and tinkering in his garage. He was always willing to help a friend in need and he loved to talk.
The family would like to give thanks and appreciation to all the doctors, nurses and staff on the Palliative Care Unit, and a special thank you to Dr. Ashley Wood who went beyond the act of duty.
Following cremation, Jonathan`s family invite you to a time of visitation at Forest Hills Baptist Church, 36 Mountain Road, Saint John (633-7515) on Friday March 1 from 6 to 8 pm. and Saturday, March 2 from 12 until his service at 2 pm. Following the service a reception will be held in the church hall. Interment will take place at a later date. Remembrances in memory of Jonathan may be made to the charity of the donor`s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home (646-2424).
