With great sadness, we announce the swift but peaceful passing of Allan Hewson at age 62, following a brief fight against brain cancer.
Allan is survived by a sister, Faye Disher and niece Jessica Vandermeer (Wesley), Cambridge Ontario as well as many friends both in Kingston and Calgary.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the compassionate staff at the Sarcee Hospice, Calgary.
A come and go gathering will be held on Sunday, February 17th from two to four p.m. 134 Scarboro Ave. Calgary. Remarks at 2:30.
Allan was a true life-long learner. He loved having a study focus.
His academic achievements included a B.A. Honors (Drama), B.Ed., (Queen’s University), Certificate in Early Childhood Education, M.A. Counseling (Gonzaga), M.Ed. (Portland), and a Doctorate in Psychology (California) Allan also received a provincial Excellence In Teaching Award.
Allan worked for the Calgary Board of Education from 1980-2005.
He taught at Canyon Meadows school, Louis Riel, Dr. Oakley, and Dr. Gordon Townsend School in the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
Allan also was a curriculum writer, provincial exam marker, in-service provider and Calgary Teacher’s Convention speaker.
Upon retirement, Allan was a well-loved substitute teacher at Calgary Arts Academy.
Outside of teaching, Allan’s passions were dancing, disco music, and singing, as well as being a musical theatre aficionado, and movie lover. And off course, his love of Swiss Chalet and Cheesies were known by all. Allan also loved animals, especially dogs, as well as rabbits and cats.
Allan will be deeply missed by close Calgary friends Marion McMullen, Neil and Patti Martin and Brian Quiring and their families.
Interment will be in Kingston in the summer, where his many Kingston friends will gather.
