On January 20, 2019 Mr. William (Bill) Zarowny of Elk Point, Alberta passed away at the age of 98 years, at the Elk Point Parkview Extended Care with family by his side. Bill is survived by sisters-in-law, Josie Zarowny and Amelia Bowen; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Anna; sisters, Nellie (Steve) Rucyzki, Marie (Bill) Daneliuk, Pauline (Frank) Gusnowski, and Margaret (Bill) Faminow; by his brothers, Joe (Elizabeth), Anton, Paul, Steve, John and Nicholas (baby). Bill was born on April 2, 1920 in Springside, Saskatchewan. He was a veteran of World War II, and very proud to have served with the Canadian Army – Canadian Ordinance Corps. He trained in Camrose, Calgary and Comox, then transferred as a one man draft to the Ordinance Corps Technical School in Niagara Falls. From there he spent 4.5 years in England, Holland, Belgium and Germany. Following his discharge on January 10, 1946 Bill returned to the family farm, and continued to farm full-time and then part-time until 2012. Known for his love of people, socializing, and his good sense of humour, Bill will be greatly missed by family and friends. Mass will be offered for the repose of the soul of Mr. William (Bill) Zarowny at St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church, Elk Point, on Sunday, January 27 at 9:00 am. A Memorial Service will be held at the Allied Arts Centre in Elk Point on Monday, January 28 at 10:00 am. Cremation has taken place, with inurnment at the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Elk Point at a later date.
