OBITUARY
Winifred Lucy Chester
July 9, 1928 – December 31, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother Winifred Lucy Chester, at the age of 90 years. She was predeceased by her husband William “Bill” Edward Chester and
by her grandson Jeremy Mark Chester. Winifred is survived by her children Mark (Sharon), Marnie(Derrick Cyr), Tracy Chester (Bill Leach) and Brett (Sheryl). Loving grandmother of Stephen, Melissa, Garett, Jennifer, Heather and Brandy; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Winifred was born in Westcliffon Sea in England, and immigrated to Canada after the second World War with her Mother to Derholme BC, to live with her Aunt. It was there that she met her future husband Bill Chester, and they were married on September 30, 1950. Winifred loved to fish the local waters, mostly in Cowichan Bay and the Samson Narrows, with her family and bringing home the catch of the day. There was nothing Winifred would not do for her children and grandchildren. Winifred loved to cook and bake which won her a lot of blue ribbons at the local fairs. She worked for Hill Crest Lumber, Bank of Montreal, and Dr. Price and Dr. Henderson’s Office and did volunteer work with the crisis line. She was an avid swimmer and could be found every morning at the local Pool. In her spare time she scoured the flea markets for treasures to add to her collections. She travelled the world, sometimes with her daughters, and sometimes even visited the same country more than once.
The family would like to thank all the nurses and care givers at Chemainus Health Care Centre for the excellent care that Winifred received.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service on Friday, February 1st, 2019 at 2pm at Mountain View Cemetery, 6493 Somenos Road, Duncan BC.
