Roy David Power
Florence
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roy David Power, on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in North Sydney on August 22, 1945, Roy was the son of the late Wilbert and Annie (McCarthy) Power. He was a pipefitter by trade, but you could say he was “Jack of all trades.” He was a ham radio operator (VE1OR), and a multi-talented musician, especially with the guitar and bass. (a rhythm machine). He loved his many trips to the cabin; fishing, hunting and being with family and friends. He was a cursillista and worked cursillo weekends. Roy had a special gift for helping people, especially the handicapped. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Roy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Theresa (LeBlanc) Power, his sons David (Dianne), North Sydney, and Troy (Tammy), Upper Tantallon, and his grandchildren; Emily, Regan, Rory, Rebecca, Jacob, Christopher and Brooke. Also left to mourn are his sisters Molly (Tommy), Sydney Mines, Peggy (Wesley), Lower Sackville, and Nancy (Brian), Dartmouth, mother-in-law Lorraine (Roland) LeBlanc, and sister-in-law Ann Marie Power.
Besides his parents, Roy was predeceased by his daughters Janet Doyle and Donna McKeough, son-in-law Dave McKeough, grandson Nathan Doyle, infant twins Hogan and Morgan Power, brothers-in-law Harold Dawson and Robert Campbell, brother Edward Power and father-in-law Maurice LeBlanc.
We would like to thank everyone who took care of Roy with dignity and compassion during his illness, especially the Palliative Care Unit and the Regional Hospital.
Visitation for Roy Power will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2019, from 6-9 p.m. in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A celebration of his life will take place on Friday, at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Family Church, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roy’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Regional Hospital, or to a charity of one’s choice. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
