Robert S. Forbes
1921-2019
The passing of Robert «Bob» S. Forbes,
Fredericton, NB occurred at Windsor Court on January
18th, 2019. Born in Moncton, NB in
1921, he was the son of Dr. Albert E. Forbes and Gertrude Rutherford
Forbes.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Anne MacKenzie
Forbes; two sons, Ian Franklin Forbes (Deborah) of Surrey, BC and
Robert Bruce Forbes (Carol Ann) of Naples, FL and a daughter, Janet
Forbes-Scott (Kevin) of Reading, MA. Also survived by four
grandchildren, John Forbes, Gregory Forbes, Alexander Scott and Robin
Scott.
He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Franklin
and Donald.
A retired Forest Biologist, he was employed by the Canadian
Forest Service. He graduated from the University of New
Brunswick with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees
in Forestry in 1944 and 1949, respectively, and from The Ohio State
University with a Ph.D in 1960.
In professional circles he served in offices in the Acadian
Entomological Society and in the Maritime Section, Canada’s
Institute of Forestry, and was a member of the Professional Institute
of the Public Service of Canada. He had a term as President
of the Central NB Branch of the Canadian Arthritis and Rheumatism
Society.
Interested in Masonry, he was a Past Master of Hiram Lodge
No. 6, F. & A. M., was a Thrice Puissant Grand Master of the
Scottish Rite Lodge of Perfection, a member of the Royal
Order of Scotland and belonged to the Luxor Shrine.
He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church where
he was a life-time Elder and chaired a number of committees.
He was a life member of the Fredericton Golden Club.
An ardent outdoorsman in his younger years, he enjoyed
hunting, fishing, skiing and was a member of the Fredericton Golf and
Curling Club and the Maritime Senior’s Golf
Association.
Honoring his wishes, his body has been donated to Dalhousie
University, Faculty of Medicine for research. A committal
service will be held at a later date in the Fredericton Rural
Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial tributes may be made
to the St. Paul’s United Church, the Scottish Rite
Charitable Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s
choice.
