We are profoundly saddened to announce the passing of our beloved wife, sister, mother and grandmother on December 26, 2018 at the age of 78. Olga is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Jerry; siblings, Alena and Ivan (Anezka); daughter, Nicole (Miro); grandchildren, Sofia and Evan.
Olga graduated with a Masters Degree in Math and Physics from Charles University in Prague in 1962. She and Jerry came to Edmonton from their native Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic) as refugees in 1968. Olga became the first female Computing Services manager in Western Canada; she worked at the University of Alberta in the Computing Services department for 23 years. After her U of A experience, she was a Math and Computing Instructor at NAIT for 2 years, then a Computing Instructor at Grant MacEwan University for 12 years.
Olga was a brilliant light with a huge zest for life. She had a big personality, the life of the party. She was an eternal optimist with a can-do attitude and a brave, fighting spirit. She had a sharp mathematical mind, appreciated high fashion and had a passion for people and travel. Olga was determined, dedicated and persistent in everything that she chose to do. She formed many close and important friendships here in Canada, the vast majority of which she maintained loyally for the past 50 years.
Most of all, she loved her family fiercely and especially adored her grandchildren. We will miss her so much but her spirit will live on in our hearts.
A Celebration of Olga’s Life will be held on Monday, January 14 at 10:00am at the Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011-114 Street, Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
