Obituary of Linda Irving
IRVING, Linda
September 10, 1948 – January 13, 2019
It is with great sadness that the family of Linda Louise Irving (née Luhning) announces her peaceful passing, with family by her side, at the Pasqua Hospital on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the age of 70 years. Linda will be sadly missed by her husband John, of 50 remarkable years, her children John (Keri) of Lumsden, James (Karen) of Regina, and Joel (Monica) of Bakersfield, CA, and eight grandchildren Logan, Jones, Jeena, Anderson, Everett, Hannah Louise, Noah and Emerson, her sister Lorna Weisbrod of Lumsden, brothers Richard Luhning and late wife Arlene of Calgary, Rand Luhning and wife Kathy of Lumsden, and Rod Luhning and wife Norma of Lumsden, sisters and brothers-in-law – Bernice and husband Herb Haus of Glenavon, Jean and late husband Lou Goebel of Neudorf, Dixie and husband Gord Kistner of Disley, and Jack and late wife Betty Dalziel of Edmonton. Linda is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Linda was the second child of the late Walter and Helen Luhning, raised on a farm west of Lumsden, Saskatchewan. She attended and completed school in Lumsden before graduating from the University of Saskatchewan with a B.A. in Psychology with Distinction. Linda worked for the Saskatchewan Department of Welfare until she married John in 1969 and gave birth to their first son in 1970. During her early years, Linda was active in figure skating, softball, and curling. She was also a CGIT member, and 4H member, in her younger years. Playing piano was her love – playing in the community choir and being a part of the Singing Friends and Neighbors group under the direction of good friend Marilyn Hill. Gathering around the piano with her grandchildren was one of her favorite things to do. Later in life, Linda took up running in long distance races such as the Moose Jawg, Queen City Marathon, and Flatlanders Marathon, to name a few. Linda placed 3rd in her age division at the Calgary Marathon. She participated in many running classes with her sister, brothers, and good friends at the University of Regina and Wascana Park. Linda was a devoted wife and mother. She took pride in her role on the farm, helping with harvest, tending to cattle, and planting and caring for her amazing gardens. Linda supported her three sons, and grandchildren, in all kinds of sports and activities such as hockey, baseball and band. Linda travelled with her Mother and several aunts and uncles on an Alaskan Cruise. She also traveled extensively throughout Canada and the United States.
The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses of the Pasqua Hospital in Regina for their kindness, care and compassion during a difficult time. The interment will be a private family ceremony at the Disley Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life memorial held at the Lumsden Community Hall, Lumsden, Saskatchewan on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Donations can be made in Linda’s name to St. Andrew’s United Church, 115 King St., Lumsden SK S0G 3C0.
