Jayne Rompala

Jayne Rompala January 14 2019

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jayne Rompala after a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. She passed away peacefully in St. John’s Newfoundland on January 14, 2019 at the young age of 56 surrounded by family and friends.
Jayne was a dedicated fitness buff and ran the shoreline, roads and hills of Maddox Cove and Petty Harbour for two hours every day – even in the worst of Newfoundland’s weather. When she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer two years ago, she kept on running. She was a warrior and continued to work and stay in shape even while undergoing some of the highest doses of chemotherapy available. Jayne did not want to be defined by her cancer and lived by her motto “down on one knee, never two”.
Jayne was an immensely proud mom and her sun rose and set on her children. She was a dedicated and loving daughter, sister, auntie and partner. She was a caring and compassionate person who built many lasting relationships with the families she cared for. In her youth, she was a competitive swimmer and a much sought after swim instructor for children with disabilities.
Jayne loved to swim, sail, and pretty much do anything that involved being in or around water. She loved Halloween and was a true foodie and music lover. Her cookbooks and compilation CDs are not for those without a sense of adventure and an open mind.
Jayne will be remembered as strong, playful, vivacious, kind hearted, and a true friend. She was someone who took on every new challenge with a sense of adventure and great enthusiasm and will be remembered for her piercing beautiful eyes and warm smile.
Jayne is predeceased in death by her beloved father Spiz and brother Steve and grandparents John, Rosa, Jozia and Alloys. Jayne is survived by her children Hannah and Kyle, mother Anne, her fiancé Ben, brother Mike (Lisa), and her many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Steve Quigley, nurses, and staff at the Eastern Health Sciences Centre General Hospital in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Dr. Dawn Armstrong at MUN MED Memorial University and Dr. Darryl Hogan for their exceptional compassion and care of Jayne.
The family has asked that donations be made in Jayne’s memory to the Health Science Centre, in care of the Eastern Health Foundation, 300 Prince Philip drive, St. John’s, NF, A1E 3V6
At Jayne’s request, a private ceremony celebrating her life will be held for close family and friends.
Jayne touched the lives and hearts of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
With all our love, rest in peace sweetheart.

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Jayne Rompala
