Frederick Michael «Mickey» Ells – age 63, of
Lunenburg, passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019, surrounded by his
niece, son and a few close friends in South Shore Regional Hospital,
Lunenburg County. Born in Somerville, Massachusetts, USA on February
5, 1955, he was a son of the late Austin and Edna (Brady) Ells and was
raised by his aunt and Uncle, (the late) Maisy and Meb Hudson. He
loved the sea and «Captain Fred» was well known and loved by
many in Lunenburg and the surrounding area. He enjoyed taking people
whale watching and on harbour tours. He served in the United Sates
Army in the 1970’s and later worked on various fishing
vessels and scallop draggers throughout Canada and the USA. He never
had children of his own, however, he chose some along the way, Dwayne
(Candace) Naas, Bridgewater, Shawna Naas (Justin), Pleasantville and
Zach Stewart, Lunenburg. He is survived by niece, Lisa (Dennis) Rose,
Kentville; great niece, Destiny Ells-Bond, New Minas; great nephew,
Austin Ells-Bond, Halifax; great niece, Trinity Ells-Bond, Kentville;
uncles and cousins in both Canada and the USA. In addition to his
parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert Daniel Ells and a
niece, Marie Ells. Cremation has taken place and there will be no
visitation or funeral service, by request. A celebration of his life
will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019 in the
Kentville Lions Hall, River Street, Kentville. The family wishes to
express their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of
South Shore Regional Hospital, for their care, kindness and
compassion, especially ICU nurses, Hannah, Angie and Marcie who went
above and beyond. Donations in memory may be made to Lung association.

Today I take my ship and sail away
and bid you all farewell ,
I have weathered the storms of life
my ship now sails on calmer seas,
where the ocean meets the sky
and the sunsets last forever ,
I have built my ship on family love
The nails were driven with many hugs
the paint was spread with love ,
My life was like the ocean
some times beautiful as can be
sometimes stormy as the sea ,
A beautiful shore awaits ,
So now I bid you all farewell
