Eugenie Gill Trites
1934-2019
After a wonderful Christmas with her family, Gene transcended
this earthly life as she had lived it, full of faith and hope, on
January 7, 2019 at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on
October 1, l934 in Manchester, U.K., Gene was the daughter of Eugenie
Baker and Ralph Gill. A caring and faithful friend to many, Gene
partnered with her husband in ministry for over half a century. A
pillar of hospitality, she was also a dedicated teacher, both in
England and in Canada, and a tireless volunteer. Gene loved Wolfville
from that first Sunday evening in August 1966 when she arrived as a
new bride. Gene also loved children – all shapes, sizes,
ages and abilities. She was delightfully imaginative in her
relationships with her grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Besides her
parents, she was predeceased by sister-in-law, Ruth (Charles). She is
survived by her husband of 52 years, Allison; sons, Jonathan (Suzanne)
and Ian (Shoko), and grandchildren, Rachel, Evan, Benjamin, Gill and
Eugenie; sisters-in-law, Mary Steeves (Max) and Lois Nicholson, as
well as many nephews and nieces. The family is deeply grateful for the
compassion and care of friends and neighbours, including the Wolfville
Baptist Church fellowship, the other churches of town, the community
at large, and every member of the medical teams, both in the Valley
and in Halifax. We are especially thankful to Gene’s family
physician, Dr. Andrea Mossman. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m.
on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the White Family Funeral Home,
Kentville. The funeral, followed by a reception, will take place at
2:00 p.m., Monday, January 14, 2019 in the Wolfville Baptist Church,
the Reverend Dr. Scott Kindred-Barnes officiating. In lieu of flowers,
donations in memory may be made to Wolfville Baptist Church, Acadia
Divinity College, Valley Hospice Foundation, or the Wolfville and Area
Food Bank. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White
Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
