Elsie MacKay, nee Hayes, age 98, died on January 7, 2019 at Northwood Manor, Halifax. Born in Dublin Shore, Elsie moved to the Halifax area in 1945 following her marriage.
She loved music, gardening, sewing, and was a wonderful cook. Until ill health, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a resident of The Berkeley in Bedford until her health deteriorated then she resided at Northwood until her death.
Elsie is survived by her daughter Susan (Lappin) and grandchildren Andrew, Bridget and Cara. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Elsie was predeceased by mother Susan (nee Romkey) Hayes, father Lemuel Hayes, sisters Lolita, Lily (Scott), Rita (Jenner), Mabel (Smith), Pearl (Oxner), brothers Rexford and Charles. She was also predeceased by her husband Douglas MacKay.
Memorial service for Elsie will be held on January 11, 2019 at 3:00 PM at the Presbyterian Church of Saint David, 1544 Grafton Street, Halifax. Rev Iona MacLean will be officiating. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saint David’s Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
