It is with great sadness that the family of Doris Wagner announces her sudden passing on January 2, 2019 at the age of 84. Known to friends as “Betty”, she became a grandma to every person she met.
Born June 24, 1934 in St. Peters Bay, PEI to Simeon and Mable MacLaren, she was one of nine children. Upon leaving the east coast, where she worked for the Eaton’s company, the brave young woman moved across the country to Calgary and met her dearest friend Olive. After meeting her husband Alvin, the couple moved to Nanton where she won “Clerk of the Year” three times. From there, they moved to Bonneyville, Drayton Valley, then retiring in Claresholm where they celebrated 35 years of marriage before his passing. While in Claresholm, she became a chauffeur to all children, school volunteer and sports fan to every game or event her grandchildren participated in.
Before Betty’s illness, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, and hosting neighbourhood block parties. She was an animal lover and enjoyed time with her furry companions Nine, Mary Jane, Onyx, Nick and Skittens.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and best friend Krista Wagner, grandchildren Seth (Rachel) and Falon Wagner (Rob Entwistle), along with three remaining siblings, other extended family and friends.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at a later date.
Memorial Donations in memory of Betty can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada 20 Eglinton Ave W., 16th Floor Toronto, ON M4R 1K8.
