Our Mother passed away in peace surrounded by her three sons – Robert, Tony and Jonathan, and her two daughters-in-law – Susan and Laura. She is also survived by her five grandchildren – Andrew, Allen, Nathan, Carl and Shannon, and nine great-grandchildren.
Doreen Fowler was born and raised in Northants, England and at the beginning of WW2 became a nurse in the Army where she served until the end of the war. In 1944, she married Douglas Gage. The family emigrated to Canada in January 1958 and moved into their home directly across from the Uplands Golf Course clubhouse, where they were active members for many years.
Douglas died in 1973 and after a few years, Doreen began travelling extensively through Europe and western North America with friends and family. She was an active member of St. Philip Anglican Church, singing in the choir and enjoyed an active life of golfing, bridge and being Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In her last few years, she enjoyed living in Carlton House, where she made many friends. The family would like to thank both the staff at the Carlton House and the doctors, nurses and staff at the Royal Jubilee Hospital for their dedication and care.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Philip Anglican Church in Oak Bay on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 2:00 pm and a Celebration of Life will take place at the Uplands Golf Course for family and friends on Saturday, May 11th, 2019 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to donate to the charity of your choice.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.
