Anna “Dolores” (Phalen) Penman

It is with heavy hearts we regret to inform you of the peaceful passing of Anna “Dolores” Penman (Phalen) on Thursday, January 24th 2019, surrounded by her family at Taigh Na Mara in Glace Bay. Mom was born on November 22, 1928 in Port Morien to William and Blanche (Bray) Phalen.
Mom is survived by James, her loving husband of 63 years, her children; Byron (Catherine), Deborah (Jim Kiley), and Keith (Teresa), grandchildren; Jillian, Nathan and Maria, sister; Carmel Higdon, brother; Byron Phalen and numerous nieces and nephews.
As well as her parents, Mom is predeceased by her brothers; Arthur and Patrick, granddaughter; Breanna and grandson;Daniel .
Mom was well known and active in the community. She was a long time parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Port Morien and was a member of the Altar Society. She had a keen interest in local history and genealogy. In her youth she worked at the Co-op in Port Morien and the Joy grocery store in Sydney. Mom devoted most of her life to caring for her family. She enjoyed baking, knitting, quilting, embroidery, crocheting, crafting and being at the bungalow.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and guidance of J.M .Curry Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
A visitation for Delores will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Port Morien, Tuesday, January 29th at 1:00 p.m. followed by a funeral mass at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank New Dawn, Cape Breton County Homemakers, and the staff at Taigh Na Mara for their care in Mom’s later years.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Dolores’ memory made to the Cemetery Fund of St. Mary’s Church in Port Morien. Condolences to the Penman family can be made online at currysfuneralhome.com
