Swim, Wendell Alvin of Clark’s Harbour, N.S.
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Wendell Alvin Swim announce his sudden passing at Roseway Hospital. Wendell was born in South Side, CSI on June 26, 1930 and was the son of the late Howard and Helena (Nickerson) Swim. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joyce (Atkinson); grandson Connor (Kaitlyn) and great grand-daughter Piper Swim; sisters Coral Cotter, Beverley (Paul) Delaney; brother Langille and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sons Anthony and Darren; daughter Joy; and brothers Winston, Glendon, and Bruce. Wendell was a true sports fan and his favorite pastime was watching golf, baseball and hockey on TV. Being an avid golfer, he belonged to the River Hills Golf Club, in Port Clyde and for many years he would also travel to Florida so he could play his beloved game. He was a fisherman all his working life catching lobsters and ground fish. Wendell and his cousin Melvin Swim were the first fishermen on Ellenwood’s Island to replace the wooden pot hauler with an iron head. At one time, fishing alone, he caught ten thousand pounds of Pollock and dressed them all himself. In his younger days he was a champion at trap and skeet and is still remembered for his skill in the competitions at Beaver Dam. Being an outdoorsman, he also enjoyed hunting deer with both bow and rifle. There will be visitation held Tuesday, October 30 from 7-9pm at the H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Barrington. The funeral service will be Thursday, November 1, at 2pm at the New Testament Church, the Hawk with Pastor Paul Lavender officiating. Interment at the Evergreen Cemetery, Lower Clark’s Harbour.
