Vera Edith Ruth Radtke
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Vera Edith Ruth Radtke (nee Neubauer) on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the age of 86, at Golden West Centennial Lodge in Winnipeg.
Left to cherish Vera’s memory is her son, Alvin Radtke (Debbie).She was predeceased by her husband Henry in 1984.
We will remember Mom for her vivacious love of life and sense of humor. Mom was a very loving and generous person. She was also fiercely independent, and showed courage and resolve early in her twenties embarking on her own from post-war Germany to the new world to forge a new path and life for herself in Canada. That travel bug never left her, with numerous visits to Florida, Hawaii and Arizona over the years.
Vera had a wide array of love and interests, but focused on her cats Smokey and Tiger, and friends and family. Vera engaged in several occupations over her life – seamstress and art mender, helping run “U-Pick Strawberries” with friends Emil and Erika Figur in Beausejour, and of course, being the absolute best mother in the world to her only son Alvin.
We would like to thank the respective staff at Arlington Haus and Golden West Centennial Lodge for their love, care and dedication they showed Mom in her final years.
Ask anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Mom; to know her was to love her. She was a beautiful soul.
Cremation, a private memorial and celebration of life will take place shortly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba, or the Winnipeg Humane Society.
Now you are free. Fly, soar, you lovely spirit, home to the waiting arms of Jesus.
You held my hand when I needed it. And I was fortunate to hold yours to the end. And I will keep holding it in my heart until I see you again.
