Lovingly Remembered
November 18, 1943 – Ungvar, Hungary November 29, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Steven. Predeceased by his parents Stephen and Anna Pungor and his brother-in-law John Toth. Steven is mourned by his devoted, loving wife Shirley, his son Tod , grandchildren Rhys and Reid , daughter Teresa and son Gord, also mourning his loss are his three sisters Anna Toth, Elizabeth Nagy, Susan Williams, brothers-in-law Michael Nagy and Don Williams. He is fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews in BC who knew Uncle Steve as the wonderful uncle who periodically came for visits in his cowboy boots, cowboy hat and a very fast car.
Steven came to Canada with his parents and three sisters in June of 1957. Before arriving in Canada, he lived an adventurous life as a refugee. Steven fled with his family from Hungary after the Hungarian revolution in October 1956. His father made the difficult decision to leave the country so he could provide a better life for his family. The family settled in Vancouver where Steve lived until the early 80s. He resettled to Calgary to pursue a new career in the oil industry, with Nowsco, BJ Services and eventually Baker Hughes. Steven retired ten years ago and spent his days enjoying his retirement planting a wonderful garden on his acreage, tinkering on his collector cars and making improvements to their home to Shirley’s delight. He was a handy man who could do just about anything and be creative in handling whatever situation arose. Steven was a very caring, loving, generous man. He was always willing to help anyone in need. Above all else he loved his wife, his family and his home. He fought diabetes and kidney failure with courage, dignity and determination. His acceptance of his reality was always without complaint. He was a man to be admired and to emulate. He will be terribly missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home, (Prairie View Chapel, 1605 – 100 Street SE, Calgary) on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Steve’s name may be made directly to the Kidney Foundation of Alberta or the Diabetes Canada.
