Sheila Trautman 1959 – 2018

Sheila Rae Trautman
Aug. 1, 1959 – Nov. 23, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sheila Trautman (Thompson) in Kamloops, BC on November 23, 2018 after three years of battling Ovarian Cancer.
Sheila leaves behind Tom, her husband and best friend of 36 years, her son Brian (Stefanie), daughter Jackie (Jaden) and dog Gus, as well as many friends and family.
Sheila grew up in Coquitlam, and spent most of her years living in the lower mainland, before moving to Kamloops in 2017. Gifted both academically and athletically, she played at the highest level in softball, basketball, volleyball, cross country and of course her greatest team sporting love, soccer. She won numerous BC championships where she was often named MVP and in 1987 won the first ever Canadian Women’s Soccer Championship (The Jubilee Cup) in Winnipeg, as captain of the Coquitlam Soccer club….A quiet, calm, true leader that everyone admired on and off the field of play. Sheila later went on to coach in many of these sports as her children grew up.
Sheila’s passion for music was as equally strong, playing the French horn and the Piano, and spent many years teaching music. She later learned the Ukulele, which she played with pride at recent family celebrations and with multiple groups each week, including the Kamloops Ukulele Orchestra.
As she pursued her career with the Delta School District, she obtained her certification as an Education Assistant, and spent the majority of her time assisting young children with Autism.
A place that she called 2nd home was the cabin on Shuswap Lake where she spent many days swimming, kayaking, boating or just basking in the sun, but one thing she loved the most was to take Gus on walks and hikes, her favorite being Copper Island.
Sheila taught us that every day is a gift, and to strive to be a good citizen. Grace was in all of her steps, and in every gesture, there was dignity and love.
The family would like to mention a special thanks to the wonderful staff at the hospice in Kamloops where Sheila was fortunate enough to spend her last few days. A celebration of life will be held in the early spring time when we see warmer weather. If you so wish to make a donation, it can be made in Sheila’s name to The Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice.
