It is with great honour to announce that Sandra Gertrude Kierstead, at age 74, has gone to be with her Lord and Savior on August 14, 2018. Sandy would have celebrated 75 years of life on the 18th of August. She has been fighting the battle with cancer for far too long. She is the beloved wife of Elmer Kierstead and daughter of the late Percy and Gertrude (Long) Earle.
During this time, we think of Sandy’s husband Elmer, their eldest daughter Kim (John) Storey of Sus and their daughter Ashley; their youngest daughter Katrina Abbott of Brown’s Flat, and her daughter Alexandra; Sandy’s sister Jean Bell of Sus; brother-in-law David (Sharon) Kierstead of Saint John; special niece, who was more like a third daughter, Tina Earle. We also think of Sandy’s other nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Velva Starkey, Mary Duke and Donna Earle, brother Robert Earle, and grandson Nathan John Storey.
Sandy was a long term member of TOPS and devoted a lot of time to the ladies of this group. She was a lifelong member of the Browns Flat Baptist Church where she was a youth leader for many years. She was well known for beautiful cake decorating and her love of crafts. At home, she took great pride in her flower and vegetable gardens. The joy of her life was her granddaughters Chick-a-Dee and Buttercup. During their golden years, Sandy and Elmer travelled to Florida to escape the winters. They poured themselves in the ministry of the SOWERS program, where she worked with troubled youth. This, of course, was one of her many passions in life. Anyone who knew her would know that her greatest passion in life was Jesus. She served as His hands and feet to further His Kingdom.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). Visitation will be held at the Browns Flat Baptist Church (1 Beulah Road, Browns Flat) on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. The funeral will be held Monday, August 20 at 1pm with interment to follow in the adjoining cemetery. Donations in memory of Sandy may be made to the Diabetic Association or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
