We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of our dear mother and wife, Ruth Johnson-Newman on October 5, 2018 at the age of 88.
Ruth was born on the farm in Olds, Alberta on April 6, 1930. She was married in 1951 to Milton Johnson and, after living in Calgary for a few years, they moved to the farm near Delacour in 1968. The farm, its yard and garden were her passion as well as cooking, baking and making things with her hands. She also loved spending the winters at her second home in Yuma, Arizona. After the passing of her husband Milton in 1993, Ruth remarried Eric Newman in 2000. Eric shared her passion for the farm and they were able to spend 18 years building a life together in Delacour and Yuma.
Family was very important to Ruth and they would travel great distances (including Moscow) to visit children and grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Lydia Farrar, sons Keith (Louise), Neil, Bruce (Rosalund), Karl (Liubov) and Eric and his children Karen, Diane (Bear), Ken (Gillian) along with sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Ruth was predeceased by one grandchild.
She will be missed enormously and will always remain in our hearts.
A Funeral Service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home (Prairie View Chapel, 1605 – 100 Street SE, Calgary) on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta.
